Or it can fall apart much sooner. It depends on how deep the decay gets and how long it sits there without treatment. That’s the part people don’t love hearing because there isn’t one magic timeline.

At first, a cavity only damages the outer layer of the tooth. You may not feel much. Maybe a little twinge with something cold. Then life gets busy and you stop thinking about it. That’s usually when the real trouble starts.

The Clock Doesn’t Move the Same for Everyone

Some cavities grow slowly. Others seem to race ahead. If your mouth stays dry a lot or you snack on sugary food through the day, decay has an easier job. Good brushing helps. So does getting a filling before the hole gets deeper. Waiting because it doesn’t hurt yet is a bad bet, if you ask me.

Pain Shows Up Late Sometimes

A surprising number of people think pain is the signal to book a dental visit. It isn’t. A cavity can become quite large before it finally reaches the nerve. By then the tooth may need far more than a simple filling. Root canal treatment starts entering the conversation, and nobody wakes up hoping for that.

• Tiny cavity. Usually easy to fix, and the appointment often ends faster than people expect.

• If the decay reaches the inside of the tooth, the repair becomes much bigger because the nerve is involved.

• A cracked tooth from untreated decay feels like it came out of nowhere, even though the damage had been building for months.

• Money matters too, because a small filling costs far less than replacing a tooth later.

Dental Implant Services in Popular Locations

Dental Implants in Isleworth Dental Implants in Brentford Dental Implants in Ealing Dental Implants in Feltham Dental Implants in Hounslow Dental Implants in Richmond Dental Implants in Southall Dental Implants in Twickenham

A tooth can hang on with a cavity for years.
