Blood clotting is part of that process. So is keeping the area calm while the early healing begins. Hot coffee isn’t doing you any favors right then. Heat can increase bleeding, and sipping from a cup while your mouth is still numb isn’t exactly a great idea either.

And if your dentist gave you sedation, coffee can also make you feel a little off. I’d rather see someone drink water and eat something soft before reaching for caffeine.

What should you have instead?

• Cool water. Boring, yes. Still the best place to start for those first hours.

• Yogurt works well because it slides down easily and doesn’t ask much from a sore mouth.

• Soup is fine if it’s cooled down first, which feels less comforting but heals better.

• Anything crunchy can wait. Your future self won’t care that you skipped chips for one day.

So when can coffee come back?

Most people can have coffee after the first day if the bleeding has stopped and their dentist hasn’t given different instructions.

Because every bone graft is a little different, the exact timing depends on the size of the procedure and how you’re healing. If your dentist told you to avoid hot drinks for longer, follow that advice instead of guessing.

A couple of habits that matter more than coffee

• Gentle brushing around the area, once your dentist says it’s okay, does more good than chasing home remedies.

• If fresh bleeding starts again after a hot drink, stop drinking it for now and give your dental office a call instead of trying to tough it out.

Dental Implant Services in Popular Locations

Dental Implants in Isleworth Dental Implants in Brentford Dental Implants in Ealing Dental Implants in Feltham Dental Implants in Hounslow Dental Implants in Richmond Dental Implants in Southall Dental Implants in Twickenham

The first day is different A bone graft leaves a small surgical site that has to settle down.
