If your dentist or oral surgeon hasn’t given you different instructions, a cup of tea that’s cool or lukewarm is generally a safer choice after three days.

Think of it this way. Your mouth may feel almost normal before the graft is actually stable. Initial healing takes about a week, while the bone itself needs much longer to fully heal.

Why Hot Tea Is a Bad Bet

Heat can irritate fresh surgical tissue. It can also make the area feel more tender, especially if swelling hasn’t completely gone down.

And don’t drink it through a straw. Suction can disturb a healing oral surgery site, which is exactly what you don’t want while the graft is settling. Similar oral surgery guidance recommends avoiding straws during the early healing period.

What Can You Eat on Day Three?

• Soft and easy to chew, especially when the surgical side doesn’t have to do much work.

• Lukewarm tea is fine for many people, but I’d leave the steaming mug alone for a few more days.

• Crunchy food can wait. Your mouth doesn’t get bonus points for proving it can handle chips on day three.

• If chewing feels uncomfortable, move back toward softer food instead of pushing through it.

A Few Things Still Matter More Than Tea

Tea isn’t the main concern. Protecting the surgical site is. Don’t poke at the graft with your tongue or fingers, and don’t swish aggressively because you’re worried about keeping the area clean.

Smoking and vaping deserve an especially hard no because they can interfere with healing.

And if your swelling starts getting worse instead of better, or you develop severe pain, pus, drainage, or a fever, contact your dental provider. Those aren’t symptoms to brush off as normal healing.

Dental Implant Services in Popular Locations

Dental Implants in Isleworth Dental Implants in Brentford Dental Implants in Ealing Dental Implants in Feltham Dental Implants in Hounslow Dental Implants in Richmond Dental Implants in Southall Dental Implants in Twickenham

Three days after a dental bone graft, you’re probably feeling better and thinking about normal food again. So, Can You Drink Tea After Three Days?
