Instead they will first place the crown over the tooth to see how it fits. You might be asked to bite down while the dentist checks how the crown lines up with the surrounding teeth.

Why the Fit Matters

A crown should feel like it’s a part of your tooth not something that’s just sitting on top. The dentist will examine the edges to make sure there is no gap between the crown and the tooth. They also check your bite because even a small difference in height can cause discomfort every time you chew.

What Happens During Crown Cementing?

Once the fit is approved the dentist prepares the tooth and the inside of the crown based on the type of crown and cement being used. The tooth must be clean and dry so the cement can stick properly.

Then the dental cement is placed inside the crown. The dentist carefully positions it over your tooth. Applies steady pressure to make sure the crown settles exactly where it should go.

After the Crown Is Cemented

After the crown is in place the dentist will usually check your bite again. They may have you bite down on a material so they can see exactly where your teeth come together.

• Some sensitivity after the procedure isn’t unusual especially if the tooth was recently prepared.

• It’s best to avoid foods for a while especially while the cement is still setting.

• Your bite should feel normal. If one tooth keeps pressing down let your dentist know instead of just accepting the discomfort.

Does Cementing a Crown Hurt?

The cementing process itself usually doesn’t hurt. The tooth has been prepared and your dentist can use a local anaesthetic if needed during the procedure.

You might feel pressure when the crown is being pushed into place. That’s not the same as pain and the actual cementing step is usually fast and over quickly.

Dental Implant Services in Popular Locations

Dental Implants in Isleworth Dental Implants in Brentford Dental Implants in Ealing Dental Implants in Feltham Dental Implants in Hounslow Dental Implants in Richmond Dental Implants in Southall Dental Implants in Twickenham

Checking the Crown Before Cementing Your dentist will not immediately glue the crown in place.
