Your dentist looks at the tooth. Might take an X-ray to see what’s going on beneath the surface. If the tooth can support a crown it needs to be shaped so the new crown will fit right.

You’ll usually get anaesthetic first. Once the area is numb the dentist removes a part of the tooth and reshapes it. The amount taken away depends on the kind of crown and how much healthy tooth is left.

Why Do You Usually Need a Second Appointment?

Your permanent crown must match your tooth. Bite exactly. That takes time. A dental lab may need days to make it although some clinics offer same-day crowns using digital milling machines.

With crowns the second visit is usually quick. The temporary crown comes off the permanent one is checked for fit and look. Then it gets cemented in place.

What Can Make the Procedure Take Longer?

• A root canal might come before the crown. That means the crown can’t be put on away.

• If the tooth is badly broken your dentist might have to rebuild part of it before placing the crown. That adds another step.

• Digital scans can feel faster than fashioned impressions especially if you don’t like having material in your mouth.

• Same-day crowns are possible in some places. Only if the technology works and the tooth is good enough for it.

Does a Dental Crown Feel Like a Long Procedure?

If you’re getting a crown with no extra steps plan for about one to two hours during the first visit. The fitting appointment usually takes half an hour to an hour. The long gap between visits is what makes the whole process feel longer.

Some people actually find the crown harder to deal with than the actual procedure. That’s understandable. It can feel odd for a days and you notice that tooth every time you chew.

Dental Implant Services in Popular Locations

Dental Implants in Isleworth Dental Implants in Brentford Dental Implants in Ealing Dental Implants in Feltham Dental Implants in Hounslow Dental Implants in Richmond Dental Implants in Southall Dental Implants in Twickenham

How Does the First Crown Appointment Take?
