Therefore, they are particularly relevant when it comes to the rear teeth, where the burden on the tooth is significantly higher compared to the front teeth.

Is Zirconia Harder Than Porcelain?

In most cases, this is indeed the case. Traditional porcelain tends to be more brittle and less resistant to high pressures. A crown made of this material may well be suitable for a front tooth, but if the patient grinds their teeth at night, or simply puts too much pressure on the molar teeth, a zirconia crown will be a safer choice.

How About Metal Crowns?

Metal crowns have occupied a special place in dental practice for many years. Gold alloys, in particular, are extremely strong and can resist the immense pressure exerted on the tooth during chewing.

A crown made of metal is therefore often recommended for the molar teeth, where the load is greatest. On the other hand, few people would want a metal crown on their front teeth. Personally, I would prefer zirconia over metal in such a case.

What About Ceramic Crowns?

Crowns made of ceramics can be beautiful and natural-looking, which is why they are often used to replace front teeth. However, this also means that they are more suitable for light loads. Aesthetics are not a priority for the molar teeth, so a traditional porcelain crown is not a good choice in the back of the mouth.

For the front teeth, aesthetics take precedence over functionality. In other words, such a crown will look nice, but it will not resist heavy pressure. Therefore, if a person grinds their teeth at night, or puts too much pressure on their teeth, ceramics are definitely not a good choice.

Does this mean that a stronger material is always better?

Ultimately, it should not hurt, and the bite should not be noticeable after the implant has healed and the crown has been placed.

Good dental professionals will ensure that the crown is placed in such a way that it does not impede the normal function of the bite, but at the same time, it remains practically invisible.

Dental Implant Services in Popular Locations

Dental Implants in Isleworth Dental Implants in Brentford Dental Implants in Ealing Dental Implants in Feltham Dental Implants in Hounslow Dental Implants in Richmond Dental Implants in Southall Dental Implants in Twickenham

Why Zirconia Gets So Much Attention Ceramic made from zirconium dioxide, otherwise known as zirconia, possesses interesting properties, among which is an exceptional degree of hardness.
