You don’t want to drink while you can’t feel your mouth properly. It’s surprisingly easy to bite your cheek or burn yourself with a drink when everything still feels strange.

What About Crowns?

Temporary crowns need a little more care because they are held in place with temporary cement. A strong drink won’t just melt the crown. Alcohol isn’t exactly good for your healing gums either.

Why Alcohol Can Be Uncomfortable Afterward

Your gums can stay sore after crown placement, when the tooth itself feels okay. Alcohol can make that soreness more noticeable especially if you already have some swelling or sensitivity.

• Still numb? Don’t drink anything until feeling returns.

• Sore gums around the crown after a longer visit are a good reason to wait another day.

• Temporary crown in place? I would be more careful here because you don’t want to spend your evening worrying about whether the crown feels loose.

If You Already Had a Drink

Don’t worry. One drink doesn’t mean you’ve hurt your crown.

Rinse your mouth gently with water. Continue with normal care. Don’t scrub around the crown hard just because you’ve had alcohol. That will do harm than good if the gum is already sore.

When Can You Go Back to Normal Drinking?

Once the numbness is gone and your mouth feels okay most people can go back to their drinking habits after the first recovery period. Still I would avoid making the evening after crown placement a heavy drinking night.

And if the crown starts feeling loose your bite suddenly feels wrong or the pain keeps getting worse of getting better alcohol isn’t the thing to try. Call your dentist.

Dental Implant Services in Popular Locations

Dental Implants in Isleworth Dental Implants in Brentford Dental Implants in Ealing Dental Implants in Feltham Dental Implants in Hounslow Dental Implants in Richmond Dental Implants in Southall Dental Implants in Twickenham

How Long Should You Wait After a Crown?
