You may notice it while chewing. You can feel it with your tongue. Then you become busy. Forget about it.

Do not leave a loose crown for weeks. A crown is meant to stay on the tooth underneath. When a crown starts to move the tooth is more exposed than it should be. The sooner a dentist checks a crown the easier the problem usually becomes.

How Loose Is Too Loose?

If a crown moves when you bite or touch it call a dentist. Even a little movement matters. You do not need to wait until the crown falls off completely.

Sometimes a crown has simply lost some of its cement. Times there may be decay underneath or damage to the tooth itself.. Because you cannot see what is happening under a crown guessing at home is not a good plan.

Signs You Shouldn’t Ignore

• Pain when you bite down requires a check especially if the pain keeps coming back.

• A crown that rocks noticeably when you touch it is not something to test repeatedly. Your tongue will keep finding it

• If a crown comes off and the tooth underneath feels sharp or sensitive make an appointment of trying to live with it.

• A bad taste or unpleasant smell around a crown is worth mentioning to a dentist as it can point to a problem beneath it.

What If the Crown Falls Off?

If you can rinse a crown gently with water. Do not scrub it aggressively. Use household glue to stick it back on. Seriously skip the glue. Dental cement and household glue are very different. Trying to fix a crown yourself can make the dentists job harder.

You can usually keep a crown in a clean container while you wait. If the exposed tooth is sensitive avoid chewing on that side and stay away from foods or drinks that make the sensitivity worse.

When It Needs Attention

A loose crown with pain needs prompt dental care. The same goes for swelling around a tooth or face bleeding that does not settle or a crown that has broken and left an edge.

• Swelling near a tooth especially if it is getting worse needs attention rather than a wait‑and‑see approach.

• Trouble breathing or swallowing is an emergency. Get medical help instead of waiting for a routine dental appointment.

What Will the Dentist Do?

If a crown is still in shape and a tooth is healthy a dentist may clean a crown and re‑cement it. If a crown does not fit properly anymore a replacement may be needed.. If a tooth underneath has developed decay or another problem that issue must be treated before a new crown can be placed.

The trick is not to wait for a crown to become a nuisance.

Dental Implant Services in Popular Locations

Dental Implants in Isleworth Dental Implants in Brentford Dental Implants in Ealing Dental Implants in Feltham Dental Implants in Hounslow Dental Implants in Richmond Dental Implants in Southall Dental Implants in Twickenham

A loose crown is an issue that is easy to ignore at first.
