Some enamel was shaveed off in order to prep it for the crown, and the tooth may be adjusting to the new addition. The surrounding gum may also be a little inflamed.

If you are getting a sudden, quick pain after eating something cold, don’t worry. It could just be adjusting to the crown. It’s one of those things that you don’t really notice until you don’t have it anymore.

Is Sensitivity After Getting A Crown Normal?

Yup, and cold sensitivity that only lasts a few seconds is normal. More worrying is pain that lats longer after you stop applying the cold stimulus.

Try not to test your crowned tooth by using a hard bristled brush around it, and don’t test it multiple times. I’m not saying that you can’t brush that area, just that you shouldn’t be doing it every day, or every few minutes. You can tell it’s there without using some ice water to jab at the side of your mouth in the middle of a conversation. When you brush, use a soft bristled brush around the crowned tooth.

How Long Should Teeth Be Sensitive To Cold After Crown?

It’s hard to say with any certainty. Usually a few days to a couple of weeks. The important thing is what’s happening in the days following.

Another common complaint is that the crown feels high. Meaning that when you bite down, you can tell which tooth has the crown on it. You may feel like your bite is uneven. Your dentist can make some adjustments to your crown to make sure that your bite is even.

What If It Hurts When I Bite Down On It?

Biting pain is much more concerning than a quick cold sensitivity. Sometimes the crown can be high, putting extra pressure on that tooth when you chew. That’s another reason I wouldn’t just wait it out if you’re having this kind of discomfort. A simple adjustment can make all the difference in how your crown feels.

What At-Home Remedies Can Help With Sensitivity?

Lukewarm drinks are easier on a crowned tooth, especially in the first couple of days. Toothpaste for sensitive teeth can be helpful, though it might take a while to really take effect. Eating softer foods for a while can reduce pressure on the tooth, especially if you are having discomfort while chewing. Avoid chewing on very stretchy foods around the area of the crown for a while. We don’t need caramel to be part of our daily diet.

When Should I Contact My Dentist About My Crown?

If the pain is severe, or it’s persisting after you eat something hot or cold, or you’re having pain that feels especially bad when you bite down, or you’re in pain that is getting worse, contact your dentist. Swelling around the area of the tooth with the crown is also a good reason to contact them as well.

A crown can look great on a tooth, but that doesn’t mean that the tooth underneath it is healthy. The appearance of the tooth can be misleading, and that’s why we shouldn’t judge the health of the tooth by how it looks.

Dental Implant Services in Popular Locations

Dental Implants in Isleworth Dental Implants in Brentford Dental Implants in Ealing Dental Implants in Feltham Dental Implants in Hounslow Dental Implants in Richmond Dental Implants in Southall Dental Implants in Twickenham

Why Does My Crown Feel Sensitive?
