Your gum was probably moved around during the appointment, so it can feel sensitive afterward. A little tenderness when biting can happen too.

Because numbness can hang around for a while, wait until normal feeling returns before eating. Accidentally biting your cheek is surprisingly easy when half your mouth still feels asleep.

Eating After Your Crown

• Softer food for the first few hours is a sensible choice, especially while your mouth still feels tender.

• Sticky sweets are better left alone at first because they can pull against a newly cemented crown.

• If one side feels more comfortable, use it for chewing temporarily. Your mouth will usually tell you when the other side is ready.

Looking After the Crown During Recovery

Cleaning your new crown shouldn’t feel like a special project. Brush as you normally would, but be gentle around the gumline if that area feels sore. Flossing still matters because the tooth underneath the crown is still part of your mouth, not some sealed-off object that no longer needs care.

A Few Things Worth Avoiding

For the first day or so, be sensible about what you bite. Hard objects are a bad idea at any point, and using your crowned tooth to open packaging is especially tempting when you’re in a hurry. Don’t do it.

• Ice chewing is one habit I’d drop completely. Teeth aren’t tools, and crowns don’t need that kind of stress.

• Grinding at night deserves attention too, especially if you already wake with a tired jaw or sore teeth.

Sensitivity and Soreness

Some sensitivity after crown treatment is normal, particularly when you drink something cold. It should generally become less noticeable rather than steadily getting worse.

But persistent pain deserves attention. Contact your dentist if you develop strong pain when biting, swelling around the tooth, or sensitivity that keeps getting worse. Severe pain that wakes you up isn’t something to simply push through because you assume it’s part of recovery.

Getting Back to Normal

Keep your usual dental appointments too. Your dentist can check the crown and the tooth around it during routine care. And if the crown ever feels loose or you notice a crack, don’t wait for it to become a bigger problem.

Recovery doesn’t need to become a daily project. Give the tooth some breathing room at the start, keep it clean, and pay attention to changes that don’t settle. After a while, the crown should just get out of your way. Isn’t that exactly what you want from a dental restoration?

Dental Implant Services in Popular Locations

Dental Implants in Isleworth Dental Implants in Brentford Dental Implants in Ealing Dental Implants in Feltham Dental Implants in Hounslow Dental Implants in Richmond Dental Implants in Southall Dental Implants in Twickenham

What the First Day Feels Like Mild soreness around the treated tooth isn’t unusual.
