An X-ray might be needed if theres worry about the root or the bone around it. If the tooth needs a root canal first that changes the schedule because you’ll need to take care of that before the crown can move forward.

Tooth Preparation

Once the tooth is ready the dentist gives you some numbness. Takes away a little bit of the tooth so the crown can fit over it. An impression or a digital scan is then done. This is what tells the lab how your crown needs to be shaped.

The tooth gets a crown before you go home. It protects the tooth while you wait for the permanent one.

Waiting for the Permanent Crown

This is usually the part. Your dentist sends the scan or impression to a lab, where the metal crown is created to fit your tooth. That often takes one to two weeks although some offices get them back quicker.

During this time take a care with the temporary crown. Sticky foods are the problem because they can make it come off. If it comes off call your dentist of trying to make the temporary crown a permanent one.

What You Might Notice

• A strange bite at first especially if you’re not used to having a temporary crown there.

• Mild sensitivity can happen after the tooth is prepared, though strong or long-lasting pain needs a call to your dentist.

• The temporary crown can feel a little big. You usually stop noticing it after a days.

The Final Crown Appointment

When the metal crown arrives the dentist takes off the crown and checks the new one. They’ll look at how it fits and your bite because even a small change can make a difference when you’re chewing.

Metal crowns are especially useful for teeth because they can handle chewing well. I also like the fact that they don’t try to look like tooth enamel. If you’re fixing a molar thats not really seen when you smile strength is more important than trying to make it disappear.

After the Crown Is Fitted

Your mouth may feel a little different for a day or two. Give yourself time to get used to the shape.

But if your bite feels too high or pain keeps going of getting better tell your dentist. A small change might be all thats needed.

Dental Implant Services in Popular Locations

Dental Implants in Isleworth Dental Implants in Brentford Dental Implants in Ealing Dental Implants in Feltham Dental Implants in Hounslow Dental Implants in Richmond Dental Implants in Southall Dental Implants in Twickenham

The First Appointment Your dentist starts by looking at the damaged tooth.
