That means if there is any decay underneath that requires attention or the tooth has an infection that needs to be dealt with, this should happen before they put a crown on the tooth.

Ask the dentist what work, if any, has to be done before the crown is put on.

He or she might suggest a filling if part of the tooth is decayed. Root canals may also be suggested if the inner part of the tooth, the nerve, is infected.

Here are some questions to ask yourself before your dental appointment:

• Has your mouth been hurting recently? Even if the pain went away by the time your dentist’s appointment rolls around, you should still mention it to your dentist.

• Ask if they will be taking x-rays. Most dentists will take x-rays to see what is going on inside your mouth.

Tell Your Dentist about Medications

If you are taking any medication on a regular basis, tell your dentist. You should also mention if you or anyone else in your family has ever had medical issues while at the dentist. If you’ve had issues being numb at the dentist, let them know.

Practical Concerns

• Make sure you eat something before your dental appointment if you haven’t been told otherwise by your dentist or their staff. Trust me, I speak from experience when I say that it is miserable to be hungry while you’re laying on the dentist’s table for three hours.

• Make sure you dress comfortably. You probably won’t be judged for wearing pajamas to your dentist’s office, especially since you will most likely be sitting in a chair with your mouth wide open for however long.

• If you are going to be sedated, make sure to follow any guidelines your dentist or their staff give you. Sedation dentistry requires specific guidelines like not eating before the procedure and needing someone to pick you up after the sedation wears off.

Know What’s Going to Happen with Your Tooth

Your dentist doesn’t just glue a crown on your tooth. First, he or she will shape your tooth so the crown fits, then take an imprint or a digital picture of your tooth. Sometimes they can put a temporary crown on your tooth while they wait for the real crown to be made.

It’s important to know these things before you go through with the procedure because your tooth can feel weird after, especially your bite. It will be hard to eat anything substantial for a while, but eventually, you won’t notice the crown is there.

The Night Before Your Crown

• Make sure you get some rest if you can the night before your dental appointment. Your tooth doesn’t need any special treatment unless your dentist tells you so.

• Brush and floss your teeth unless your dentist or their staff told you not to. If you have a swollen tooth or any other medical concern, bring it up to your dentist before the procedure starts instead of waiting for them to notice it.

Dental Implant Services in Popular Locations

Dental Implants in Isleworth Dental Implants in Brentford Dental Implants in Ealing Dental Implants in Feltham Dental Implants in Hounslow Dental Implants in Richmond Dental Implants in Southall Dental Implants in Twickenham

Make Sure the Tooth is Ready A dentist has to make sure that the tooth is able to hold the crown that will be placed on top of it.
