This can either be a niggling, small pain or something deep and pressing. It can happen intermittently or only when you take a bite of something hard.

A high crowned tooth puts extra pressure on the tooth when biting, which your dentist will be able to adjust. Never try to compensate by only using the other jaw, as this can create its own issues that take longer to fix.

Discomfort From Cold or Hot Temperatures

Sensitivity in a tooth that has had a crown fitted can occur, but often disappears after some time. However, if the sensitivity is persistent or is a reaction to something cold or hot, it is best to contact a dentist.

Pain after the exposure to something cold that lingers long after you have stopped holding it in your mouth is a cause for concern, and the same goes for a reaction to something hot. The root of the tooth can become inflamed, with the cause not always being a problem with the crown.

Unusual Signs Your Crown Is Causing a Problem

Keep an eye out for the following symptoms:

A wobbly feeling when biting something more substantial than usual

Food constantly getting stuck near the crowned tooth, even after brushing

A new jagged edge on the crown

Something unpleasant tasting lodged in your mouth near the crowned tooth.

Swelling or tenderness around the crowned tooth

Things To Be Aware Of With Crowns

A bad taste in the mouth around a crowned tooth is usually best avoided. If there are other accompanying symptoms, such as swelling, it is best to get it looked at by a dentist.

Bacteria can often find its way under a crown if there is decay, a faulty seal or another problem with the crown. You may not always feel discomfort straight away.

When To See A Dentist For A Crown Problem

If a crowned tooth starts to feel uncomfortable, loose, swollen or more sensitive than before, a trip to the dentist is advisable. The dentist will be able to look at the crown itself and the root of the affected tooth to see if there is anything wrong.

If you do have a high temperature or feel ill in any other way, it is best to get it seen to as soon as possible. The infection can spread quickly and cause other problems.

Dental Implant Services in Popular Locations

Dental Implants in Isleworth Dental Implants in Brentford Dental Implants in Ealing Dental Implants in Feltham Dental Implants in Hounslow Dental Implants in Richmond Dental Implants in Southall Dental Implants in Twickenham

Pain From Biting One of the most obvious signs is that the tooth hurts when you bite.
