They need to see if there’s enough tooth remaining to hold a crown and if there’s any decay underneath

If there’s an infection that needs to be treated, sometimes a root canal is required before placing the crown. It’s easy to skip this step, because a nice-looking crown won’t fix a problem underneath it.

Step 2: The Tooth Gets Shaped

This is a relatively simple procedure. Your dentist will reshape the tooth so that the new crown fits over it comfortably

• The fit of the crown is important, since it needs to bite along with your other teeth. If the crown is too high, it could be uncomfortable to chew with and put pressure on the tooth itself.

• A temporary crown will most likely be placed so that you have something comfortable to chew with while the permanent crown is being made. You should take care not to bite into anything too hard with your temporary crown because it’s not meant to last.

Step 3: The Temporary Crown Stage

This is the annoying middle part. This is where the temporary crown is placed on your tooth to keep it safe while your permanent crown is being made

It’s possible to have some sensitivity, especially with cold beverages, but a toothache or loosening permanent crown should be brought up with your dentist

Step 4: The Permanent Crown Is Cemented

Once all of the measurements have been taken, the dentist will clean the tooth and use some dental cement to attach the crown. They may ask you bite down so that they can adjust the fit, and it may take some getting used to

• Let your crown settle in a little ways before adjusting. It could be that your bite just feels a little strange for a day or so.

• Brush and floss normally around your crown as you would your other teeth. You can’t get your crown decayed, but the tooth underneath can.

• If your bite feels high after a day, tell your dentist. They can make minor adjustments to make sure that you’re comfortable.

What Should a Back Tooth Crown Feel Like?

After a while, you should forget that you even have a crown. This is exactly what the dentist wants. You should be able to chew with it comfortably and not think about it. Some tenderness is normal after the procedure, but constant discomfort isn’t something to just brush off of because the tooth has a crown.

Dentists can determine if the bite needs to be adjusted or if the tooth itself needs to be treated.

Dental Implant Services in Popular Locations

Dental Implants in Isleworth Dental Implants in Brentford Dental Implants in Ealing Dental Implants in Feltham Dental Implants in Hounslow Dental Implants in Richmond Dental Implants in Southall Dental Implants in Twickenham

Step 1: Your Dentist Checks the Tooth Initially, the dentist will check the damaged tooth and take an x-ray if required.
