A temporary solution. It isn’t built to handle the everyday pressure as the final crown. So don’t test it with something just because the tooth feels okay. That might seem fine now. It could lead to a crown coming loose or even breaking.

Until your dentist says it’s safe chew on the other side of your mouth. Sticky foods are a no-no. Things like caramel, gum or taffy can pull a crown right off. You don’t want to have to go to the dentist because you chewed something you already knew was risky.

Keep an Eye on the Treated Tooth

Some tenderness around the tooth after a root canal is normal. It should get better over time. A little sensitivity when you bite isn’t always a flag, especially in the first few days after treatment.

• Mild tenderness at the start is usually not a deal as long as it keeps improving. If it stays the same or gets worse that’s worth mentioning.

• A bite that suddenly feels too high. Like the crowned tooth touches before the others. Should be reported. Even a small adjustment can make a difference in comfort.

• Swelling or worsening pain especially if it keeps you awake at night is not something you should ignore. That’s not normal healing. It could mean an infection or other issue that needs attention.

Don’t Put Your Normal Dental Routine on Hold

It might feel awkward to brush around a tooth that’s just been treated.. Keeping the area clean is still important. Brush around the crown and along the gumline. Floss too unless your dentist gives you instructions.

Don’t think that a crowned tooth is immune to problems. A root canal removes infection from inside the tooth. The crown still needs care where it meets the gum. Plaque can build up at the edges. That can lead to decay or gum disease.

Your Crown Shouldn’t Need Special Treatment Forever

Once the permanent crown is in place and your dentist confirms everything looks good you should be able to use the tooth like any other.. I wouldn’t make a habit of biting into hard things with a crowned tooth. Ice is a bad idea. It’s hard on the crown and not worth the risk.

Before You Leave the Dentists Office

Ask when the permanent crown should be placed if you have an one. Make sure you know what kind of discomfort is expected and what would be a reason to call the office. Also check that your bite feels right. If something feels off don’t wait. Mention it then.

Keep your follow-up appointment even if the tooth feels completely fine. That’s one rule I’d be firm about. Teeth are surprisingly good at hiding problems. They often stay quiet until the issue is serious. So don’t skip that check-in. It could save you a lot of trouble later.

Dental Implant Services in Popular Locations

Dental Implants in Isleworth Dental Implants in Brentford Dental Implants in Ealing Dental Implants in Feltham Dental Implants in Hounslow Dental Implants in Richmond Dental Implants in Southall Dental Implants in Twickenham

The Few Days Matter More Than You Think If you have a temporary crown treat it like what it is.
