The tooth is still functional but more likely to fracture, especially if a significant amount of tooth structure has been removed.

A crown is a type of restoration that covers the entire visible portion of a tooth. It restores its function and provides protection. Crowns are typically recommended for posterior teeth because they bear the most chewing pressure.

The front teeth are often left without a crown if they have a sufficient amount of natural tooth structure remaining.

Does Every Root Canal Require One?

Not necessarily. That’s what I’m getting at with the question. The phrase ‘root canal’ and ‘crown’ are often used interchangeably, but they don’t always go together. Your dentist should assess how much healthy tooth structure remains and the location of the affected tooth before deciding whether or not you need a crown.

If there is enough healthy tooth structure, another type of restoration may be recommended. However, if there isn’t, you’ll probably need a crown. I’d rather have a dentist explain to me why I need one than hear “I’m recommending a crown

What Happens During the Crown Process?

The tooth is shaped to accommodate the restoration. Impressions or scans of the tooth will be taken so that a dental laboratory can fabricate a permanent replacement for your tooth. During this process, you will be given a temporary restoration that must be treated with care

Avoiding sticky foods is a good idea when it comes to temporary crowns because they can come loose.

Things to Consider Regarding Your New Crown

Avoid chewing ice unless you want your crown to come off. Crowns are strong, but they can’t withstand the force of repeated chewing on something as hard as ice. If you know you grind your teeth at night, let your dentist know so that you can get a nightguard.

Flossing around your new crown may cause some soreness at first, but it shouldn’t hurt the gums or the crown itself.

The crown should feel comfortable after a while, so if your bite feels off or if one side of your mouth feels higher than the other, call your dentist to see if they can make some adjustments rather than waiting for it to get used to it.

When Should I Call My Dentist About My Crown?

Sensitivity following a root canal treatment is normal for a while, but if you feel discomfort that lasts for three days, you should give them a call. Pain, swelling, and a crown that has become loose or damaged should also be reported

Remember that a crown does not make the tooth impervious to disease. The tooth beneath the crown can develop cavities along its edges if proper cleaning techniques are not followed. In addition, the crowned tooth can be subject to the same problems as any other tooth, including fractures and infection.

Dental Implant Services in Popular Locations

Dental Implants in Isleworth Dental Implants in Brentford Dental Implants in Ealing Dental Implants in Feltham Dental Implants in Hounslow Dental Implants in Richmond Dental Implants in Southall Dental Implants in Twickenham

Why Does a Root Canal Tooth Need a Crown?
