You may notice a pressure when you bite down or the tooth may feel sensitive to cold drinks. That usually settles as your mouth adjusts.

Your Daily Cleaning Routine

Brushing twice a day is still the rule. Use a bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste paying attention to the gumline around your crown. Plaque collects there easily. The natural tooth beneath the cap can still develop decay.

Small Habits That Make a Difference

• The two-minute brush: Give every tooth attention, especially the one with the crown. Rushing through the teeth is an easy habit to fall into.

• Floss without the tug-of-war. Move it carefully around the tooth then ease it out. If the floss catches or shreds repeatedly tell your dentist of ignoring it.

• Mouthwash is optional. A fluoride rinse may fit your routine. It doesn’t replace brushing or flossing. No bottle can do that job for you.

Eating Without Damaging Your Crown

You don’t need to live on foods forever. Once your dentist says you can eat normally everyday meals are fine. The trick is to avoid putting your crown under pressure particularly if its newly fitted.

Hard sweets and ice are choices for crowned teeth. Chewing ice is a habit I’d drop completely even if your teeth feel perfectly strong. Sticky sweets can also pull at a crown especially if its loose or the cement has weakened.

Warning Signs You Shouldn’t Ignore

• A loose. A new clicking feeling when you bite. Don’t try to glue it yourself.

• Pain that lingers, when chewing or sensitivity that gets worse instead of better.

• Swollen. A bad taste near the crowned tooth even if the tooth itself doesn’t hurt.

Keep your dental checkups too. Your dentist can check the crowns spot trouble around the edges before it becomes a bigger repair.

Dental Implant Services in Popular Locations

Dental Implants in Isleworth Dental Implants in Brentford Dental Implants in Ealing Dental Implants in Feltham Dental Implants in Hounslow Dental Implants in Richmond Dental Implants in Southall Dental Implants in Twickenham

Getting Used to Your New Dental Cap Your new crown might feel strange for a days.
