Can You Drink Soda After 1 Day Dental Implant Surgery?

Why Soda Is a Bad Idea After an Implant

Soda doesn’t directly cause an implant to fail. The issue is what it can do to an area that’s already tender and vulnerable. Fizzy drinks can cause an odd tingling sensation around the surgical site, especially if the tissue is still swollen.

Then there’s the acidity. Many soft drinks are acidic, which can irritate healing gum tissue. Sugary soda also leaves food for oral bacteria, and that’s something you really don’t want hanging around a fresh surgical site.

What Should You Drink Instead?

• Cool or room-temperature water is the easy choice, especially while your mouth feels tender.

• Milk can work too, although plain water should still be your main drink.

• Very hot drinks are better avoided at first because heat can make the surgical area feel more irritated.

When Can You Have Soda Again?

There’s no universal day when soda suddenly becomes safe for everyone. Your dentist knows how the implant was placed and how your gums are healing, so their instructions should take priority.

For a straightforward implant, waiting several days before having soda is a much better approach than drinking it the next day. If your dentist told you to avoid carbonated drinks for longer, follow that advice.
