Metal Dental Crowns Post-Treatment Checklist
What to Check in the First Few Days
Start with how crown bite feels. Your teeth should come together comfortably. If crown hits first every time you close mouth tell dentist. Crown that feels slightly too high often needs adjustment and there is no prize for waiting until jaw gets irritated.
Keep an Eye on Sensitivity
• Mild gum tenderness around crown is usually manageable. Crown should not keep getting worse.
• Hot or cold sensitivity that hangs around after drink is gone needs attention.
• A edge or rough spot. Do not keep running tongue over crown all day and hoping crown will disappear.
Eating and Cleaning Around the Crown
For day or so take it easy with very hard or sticky foods. Once dentist says crown is fully set you can generally eat normally. Metal crowns are tough and honestly I prefer metal crowns for teeth because they tend to get on with the job without demanding much attention.
Brushing still matters. Clean crown like other teeth and be gentle around gumline while area settles. Floss too. Slide floss out from side of snapping upward if dentist has given you that advice, especially if crown is next to another tooth.
Don’t Turn the Crown Into a Test Object
You know that thing where you keep biting one side just to check whether crown feels okay? Stop doing that. The more you test crown, the aware of crown you become.
When to Call Dentist
• Persistent pain when biting, particularly if crown feels like taking much pressure.
• Swelling around tooth or gum especially if it appears after things seemed fine.
• Crown feels loose. Call promptly than trying to glue crown yourself even if it seems like tiny problem.
The Longer-Term Check
Once everything feels normal keep dental appointments. Dentist can check crown and tooth underneath it during exams. Keep cleaning around crown. Crown covers tooth. Gum around crown still needs care.
