The hygienist examines your child's teeth and gums, removes any plaque or early tartar build-up using gentle instruments and polishing, and applies fluoride varnish where appropriate. Importantly, we take time to demonstrate the correct brushing and flossing technique for your child's age and teach them why it matters — in language they understand.
Children can begin hygiene appointments as soon as they have a full set of milk teeth — typically around age 3–4. Early visits help familiarise children with the practice environment and catch any hygiene issues before they cause problems.
We also offer fissure sealants — a protective coating applied to the grooves of the back teeth where decay most commonly starts. Sealants are quick, painless and significantly reduce the risk of cavities in children and teenagers. Ask your hygienist whether your child would benefit.
