Implant crown materials

Implant crowns are available in porcelain, porcelain-fused-to-zirconia, and full-contour zirconia. The most appropriate material depends on the location of the tooth, the bite forces in that area, and aesthetic requirements. Your dentist will recommend the best option at your crown appointment.

Screw-retained vs cement-retained crowns

Implant crowns can be attached to the implant via a screw (screw-retained) or cemented onto an abutment (cement-retained). Screw-retained crowns are removable for maintenance if needed; cement-retained crowns tend to have a more natural emergence profile. Your dentist will choose the most appropriate attachment based on implant position and anatomy.

The crown fitting appointment

Once the implant has fully integrated with the bone (typically 3–6 months after placement), a scan or impression of the implant is taken and sent to our laboratory. The custom crown is fabricated and fitted at a second appointment, adjusted for perfect bite and polished to a natural finish.
