Airflow cleaning is a gentle but highly effective hygiene treatment that uses a controlled stream of air, warm water and fine powder particles to remove plaque, staining and early calculus from tooth surfaces, between teeth and below the gumline — reaching areas that traditional scaling instruments cannot.
The Airflow handpiece delivers a precisely controlled jet of air, water and erythritol powder at the tooth surface. The powder particles physically dislodge plaque biofilm, surface staining and early tartar without scratching the enamel. It is particularly effective around orthodontic brackets, implants and crowns where traditional scaling is more difficult.
Standard scaling uses metal instruments to mechanically remove tartar. Airflow uses the powder jet to remove the softer biofilm and staining first, making it faster, more comfortable and more thorough — particularly for stain removal. For heavy calculus, Airflow is combined with traditional scaling for a complete clean.
